Bluffs graduation rate sees significant improvement
Scottsbluff school officials say a huge increase in their graduation rate, the worst of any Class B school district in the state last year, show the steps they are taking are working. The 2011-2012 State of the Schools reports made public Tuesday morning shows Scottsbluff's graduation rate has increased from 72% in the last report to over 85% in this report.
Curriculum Director Mike Mason says a summer school program attended by over 300 students and other steps to retain credits have been fruitful.
Mason says the district's writing scores are a strength but he says the district's scores in the other core areas of reading, math, and science are still a work in progress. But Mason also emphasized the report shows students are making significant improvement and growth in all areas from year to year, which is the first thing needed to have better base scores.
