Fallen Heroes Memorial to be dedicated Monday
Since it's creation in 2009, the Student Veterans Organization at WNCC has been working toward the creation of a Fallen Heroes Memorial, dedicated to all fallen soldiers of the Nebraska panhandle. On Memorial Day, that monument will be dedicated with a a ceremony that begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.
Dr. Nathaniel Johnson says the memorial will stand by the flagpole at the Main Building entrance on the Scottsbluff campus. In addition to the memorial unveiling, Johnson says there will be a wreath laying by Gold-Star mothers and fathers, an Army bugler, live music by WNCC students and remarks from dignitaries including Congressman Adrian Smith and Senator Deb Fischer.
The memorial is a large bronze casting of a pair of combat boots, rifle, and helmet place on a block of granite. A reception will follow the 10 a.m. dedication ceremony on Monday.
