Storage units approved by Gering council
The Gering city council Monday evening approved allowing a zoning exception to Gering Garden Center owner Eric Kautz that will allow him to build three storage units on his property.
Kautz agreed to Planning Commission recommendations that include dedication of a street to the entrance of the storage units. Many of the spaces within the units will be larger than normal and be able to accommodate recreational vehicles, boats and trailers. Kautz says he has a lot of interest in the units and hopes to get at least a couple built by this summer.
There was no opposition Monday evening, unlike a previous meeting where nearby resident Curtis Richter told the council his residential property and others surrounding Kautz' property would lose value if the storage units were built.
Kautz says he wants to build the storage units in order to gain year round income to supplement his existing business. He also indicated the units would double the property tax money to the city and supply additional utility revenue.
