Robert L. Eddy, 92, Kimball
Robert L. Eddy, 92, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Thursday, August 8, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Carla Gunn officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may visit www.cantrellfh.com to view the obituary and leave condolences for the family. Memorials may be given in memory of Coach Robert Eddy to the Potter/Dix Schools Basketball Program. The services for Robert have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Robert Leland Eddy was born in Denby, South Dakota on May 30, 1921, the son of Arthur and Mayme (Johnson) Eddy. He grew up in a farming family with 1 brother and 3 sisters. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1939. He enrolled i n Chadron State College. Robert enlisted in the Army and served during WWII in the Ski Troops and later as a paratrooper in the Philippines. While serving in the military he met and married Hazel Blair. When the war ended, he spent time with the occupying forces in Japan before returning home to Nebraska. He then returned to school and finished his bachelor's degree in teaching. He then started a family and began his teaching career in Lodgepole, NE. In 1954 Bob moved to Kimball where he taught and coached at the high school briefly. He then worked at the local hardware store for several years. In 1967 Bob returned to teaching and coaching at the Dix Public Schools and remained there until his retirement. He spent his last few years at the Kimball County Manor.
Survivors include his son Robert and wife Rhonda Eddy of Lincoln, NE; daughters Sandra Cochran and friend Steve of Sidney, NE;
sister Helen Johnson and Mildred Colwell; 4 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great -great grandchild. He was preceded
in death by his parents and wife.
