Longtime courthouse security officer dies
A Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Deputy who served full time as security at the courthouse for 10 years has passed away. Mike McCoy started with the Sheriff's department in 2002, after working for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission as Superintendent at Lake Minatare State Recreation area for many years.
Sheriff Mark Overman says McCoy was a familiar and well respected face at the courthouse. Overman says the judges and staff at the courthouse had a "very high regard" for the professional way McCoy handled his job. Overman said McCoy stayed in the background most of the time, but "when you needed him he was there."
McCoy has been battling cancer since last year. An exact date and time for his service have yet to be announced.
