Police captains will share Gering Chief responsibilites
Gering City Administrator Lane Danielzuk says he will give the Police department's two captains a chance to share the Police Chief responsibilities as the city transitions from having Mel Griggs as Police Chief. Griggs announced Monday evening he is retiring from the position, effective March 1st.
Danielzuk says Patrol Captain Jason Rogers and Investigation Captain George Holthus will work together with Griggs over the next month to "get the benefits from the Chief's experience" in managing the department. When Griggs leaves, Danielzuk will work with the two captains on operating the department and "give the candidates an opportunity to shine and develop a foundation to look first internally to fill the position."
Danielzuk also indicated that sometime in March he will develop an application process and determine whether it will be just internal or give those from outside the department a "balanced and unbiased opportunity" to seek the job.
