Scottsbluff Police report fireworks calls mild

The Scottsbluff Police Department reports that the agency's fireworks related activity this year was mild by comparison to some previous years. Over the 10-day period for authorized purchase and use of fireworks, they investigated a total of 54 fireworks related complaints.

Of these investigations, Captain Brian Wasson says his officers responded to calls involving concern of unsupervised children lighting fireworks which the caller wanted checked on, use after hours as well as other improper uses like fireworks being fired or thrown from vehicles. However, Wasson says no citations related to the illegal use or possession of fireworks occurred.

Over the holiday itself, the nights of the 3rd and the 4th, he reports Scottsbluff Police arrested 2 people for DUI, and 2 for Driving Under Suspension.

Wasson says traffic flows arriving at and leaving the college display Thursday night were very manageable. He said the department appreciates the public's assistance with that, and for being responsible during the 10-day fireworks season.
