Vi was born February 3, 1934 at her grandmother's house in Scottsbluff to Paul and Mary (Heiter) Brown of Banner County. She began school at Victory Hill, attended Henry, and then in Long Beach, California during WWII. Her high school years were spent at Mitchell High School. Vi became a licensed beautician in 1950 and was the first in the state of Nebraska to do so at the age of 16. She worked at the beauty shop during the day and as a carhop on roller skates in the evenings. Vi also worked at the Wild Cat Dude Ranch.
She married Harold (Cork) Becker on October 4, 1951 at Harrisburg. They purchased their first farm in the Highland District in 1955 and this was where they raised their family of six children.
Vi was a member of the Acme Project Club. She helped with some farming, but when a Grade A Dairy was added, she was the only one that had to do milking duty morning and night. She taught herself to drive, cook, bake, can, sew, knit and crochet. Vi loved to craft and was a very talented artist. She dearly loved her family, enjoyed making them things and having them gather at her home. She was also a great cook and seamstress and an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver.
