Holthus new Gering Police Chief
After 26 years with the Gering Police Department, Captain George Holthus is now the city's new Police Chief.
Holthus was unanimously approved by the Gering city council Monday night after he was recommended by City Administrator Lane Danielzuk from the three candidates certified by the Gering Civil Service Commission Friday. Captain Jason Rogers and Sergeant Ed Tjaden were the other eligible candidates.
Holthus said he was proud to have gone up the ladder as a member of the Police Department, adding it is a "wonderful opportunity". He added it his "intention to make Gering a better place to live, work and play."
Holthus said the city will look at what things they need to improve to "deliver a better product to the community." Holthus said the department will go through the process to determine what the priorities should be and then move forward with that plan.
Holthus and Rogers have been leading the department since the resignation of long-time Chief Mel Griggs at the end of February.
