Velma Corrine Malone, 90, Torrington, formerly of Gering

Torrington, Wyoming – Velma Corrine Malone, 90, died Wednesday, July 4, 2013 at Community Hospital in Torrington.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, at the Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Firminhac officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be at the church prior to the service.

Velma was born January 28, 1923, in Gering, Nebraska, the daughter of Zenona Oral and Violet Irene (Scott) Yates. Shortly after she was born, the family moved to the Yoder/Veteran area. She graduated from Yoder High School and shortly after high school, Velma married Harry Kenneth Malone. The couple was married in Gering, Nebraska. They lived in various locations, depending on where Harry was stationed while he was in the U.S. Air Force. Following her husband's retirement from the U.S. Air Force, in 1969, the couple moved back to Torrington. Velma made it her life's work caring for her family. She spent a lot of her time volunteering at her church and at TOPS (Weight Watchers Program).

Velma's hobbies included reading and collecting salt and pepper shakers.

Survivors include her son Jim (Marilyn) Malone of Puyallup, WA; her daughter Kathryn (Ron) Burkart of Torrington; her sister Carmie Kirkman of Walla Walla, WA; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Douglas Ray Yates, Donald Lee Yates and Oral Yates.
