Scottsbluff man charged with abusing son
A Scottsbluff man charged with Intentional felony child abuse is being held on $75,000 bond. 41 year old Joseph Hafner is accused of throwing and hitting his son after he "lost it" when his son denied taking a key that was missing.
Court documents say the child told school officials his father had abused him, which led Scottsbluff Police to investigate. The documents say Hafner told Police he was having issues when he spanked his son on his lower back and threw him onto a carpeted floor.
Hafner said his son had a bloody nose and lip, but a doctor at Regional West Medical Center also observed hemorrhages, contusions on the lower back and a wound on his right arm. Hafner was arrested Tuesday.
Hafner, who could get up to five years in prison, has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 21st at 9:30 a.m. in Scotts Bluff County Court.
