Roscoe W. BIlls, 93, Alliance

Roscoe W. Bills, 93, died on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

He was born on March 24, 1920 in a sod house of a farm near Lodgepole, Nebraska, to Charles and Ruth (Werhan) Bills. Roscoe graduated from Lodgepole High School and Hastings Business College.

On April 4, 1941 he was united in marriage to Elna M. Wightman in Hastings, Nebraska.

Roscoe proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in both the European and Pacific Theatres. Following his discharge he returned to Hastings and learned the flooring trade. He then returned to Lodgepole and operated his own flooring business known as Modern Floors and Walls. He served customers in a wide service area. In 1966 he and Elna moved to Alliance where he began working at Johnson and Peltz flooring company. Later he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a machinist until his retirement.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge having attained the honor of being a Thirty-third Degree Mason. He was also active in Eastern Star and was a sponsor of the Jobs Daughters ritual team for many years. Roscoe was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children, Marylund Henning of Cheyenne, WY, Brent (Collette) Bills of Federal Way, WA and Charles (Elaine) Bills of Lincoln. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, his brothers, Roy and Clarence, and his sisters, Hazel, Helen, Charlotte and Doris.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alliance with Pastor Tom Lucas officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Lodgepole, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Knights Templar for the Children's Transportation Fund.
