Shirley Ann Selzer, 84, Scottsbluff

Shirley Allen Selzer, 84, of Scottsbluff, passed away peacefully Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. Her memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 9 at St Francis Episcopal Church in Scottsbluff with Father Kelsey Hogue officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of any flowers, memorials be made to the St. Francis Episcopal Church Foundation and the Scleroderma Foundation. Online condolences may be left at Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley was born February 26, 1929 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Warren Lee and Grace (Blough) Allen. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1947. In 1951 she graduated from the University of Nebraska where she was member of the Student Council, Mortar Board (Senior Women's Honorary), Pi Lambda Theta, and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and was the 1949 Homecoming Queen. At the University of Nebraska she served as President of Tassels and Secretary of Phi Sigma Chi (both Nebraska Pep Organizations). While President of Tassels, she helped start the tradition of releasing balloons after the first touchdown at the Husker games.

On December 17, 1950 she married John T. (Jack) Selzer in Tecumseh, Nebraska. They lived in Alliance, Nebraska until 1952 when they moved to Scottsbluff where she lived the remainder of her life.

Shirley was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the Vestry, and was the Director of the Alter Guild. She served as a member and was a past-President of Chapter ET PEO and worked for many years in the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a long time member of the Scotts Bluff Country Club and enjoyed playing in the Tennis and Golf Leagues. She was also an avid bridge player her entire adult life.

Survivors include her sons John A. (Ann) Selzer of Scottsbluff and Stephen T. Selzer of Denver; grandchildren Jane (Chris) Kelley and John L. (Jamie) Selzer of Scottsbluff, and Michael, Samantha, and Joe Selzer of Denver; and great-grandchildren Anna Kelley, Nate Kelley, Elliot Selzer, and Charlie Selzer of Scottsbluff.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
