Earth Day celebration a rousing success
Keep Scottsbluff-Gering Beautiful and Panhandle Coop teamed up Saturday for a very successful celebration of Earth Day, including the filling of three semis in their annual electronics collection.
Keep Scottsbluff-Gering Beautiful Executive Director Kathy Kropuenske said unlike last year, she was able to take electronics without charging a fee thanks to grants received by her organization and Electronic Recyclers out of Denver. Kropuenske said the grants were a one-time thing and there is no guarantee the situation will be the same next year, adding she appreciated the generous donations people gave even though there was no charge.
Kropuenske says the collection this year will be close to their receord of 84,000 pounds thanks to the public recycling old electronics and keeping harmful substances in that equipment out of the area landfills and our water. The effort included what was received Saturday by the city of Scottsbluff's Environmental Services Department at their building at 609 East 2nd Street.
