Gary D. Hessler, 71, Scottsbluff

Gary D. Hessler, 71, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 21, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Bauer officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. A time of sharing with family and friends will be 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday between 1-8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established to Calvary Lutheran Church or to Festival of Hope.

Gary was born January 18, 1942 in Scottsbluff to Ruben and Esther (Hass) Hessler. He grew up and attended school in Minatare and graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1959. He attended Scottsbluff Junior College, Denver University and Chadron State College receiving a Bachelor's Degree in 1965. In April 1962 he married Linda Bowden and they divorced in 1983. He taught at the Gering High School in 1965 before beginning his career with Federal Land Bank in 1966. He transferred to McCook in 1966 and to Sidney in 1968 before returning to Scottsbluff in 1971. In 1985 he his began employment with Capital Corporation before returning to Scottsbluff. He began his own appraisal company in 1987 which he operated until his death. He married Donna Chandler March of 1994.

Gary was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees, American Appraisal Society, a life member of Elks Lodge #1367, past member of the Scottsbluff School Board and active in various community organizations. He coached T Ball and baseball when his daughter was growing up.

Survivors include his wife Donna; daughter Kevin Dahlstedt, Alliance, Ne, mother Esther Hessler, Scottsbluff, NE; step-son Brian (Monica) Chandler, Scottsbluff, NE; sister: Joy (Vern) Eberhardt, Minatare, NE, grandchildren: Wren (Chad) Wilcox, Mara (Jake) Anderson, Conrad Dahlstedt, and Lance Chandler, great-granddaughter Sidda Wilcox, former wife Linda Leigh, Denver, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his father and infant daughter Heidi.
