John's journey of life included riding trains, working in the oil fields and in the coal mines. He also worked in construction making and repairing bridges and working on the Burlington Northern Railroad in Wyoming. John enjoyed traveling with his mom to North and South Dakota, California, Colorado, Idaho and Washington. John moved to Spokane, Washington where he worked at a logging company and traveled between Spokane to the Canadian border. He moved to Nebraska in 1950 and bought a farm east of Bayard where he lived and farmed for 4 years. He took care of his mom when his dad passed away. He sold the farm and moved to Scottsbluff and married Marci Saldivar on April 4, 1972. John also worked at Platte Valley Livestock Auction in Gering.

John met his loving companion and sweetheart, Mary Naegele in 1988. He adored his dogs, Skipper and Shadow and his cat, Tracy. He attended Mitchell Berean Church and considered it to be his home church. John enjoyed doing woodworking projects. Among the numerous items he made were bird houses, miniature rock houses with music boxes, he built a church with a music box and presented it to the Mitchell Berean Church. He was proud of what he built and shared them with the people he adored. He spent many hours working with his model train set and made most of the accessories by hand. John also played the guitar and harmonica. John enjoyed the company of others and we can all learn a lesson from his contentment with the small things in life. John left a legacy of memories and will be truly missed by those who knew him and loved him.
