Heineman: State "won't forget" northwest counties fire recovery issues

Governor Dave Heineman says his office and other state agencies are still working on fire recovery issues he discussed earlier this month with commissioners from three northwest Nebraska counties.

Heineman told KNEB News the state has few surplus or used posts to help local ranchers who lost thousands of miles of fences to the fires. But he says he is working to find funding to help repair county roads damaged by fire or heavy truck traffic from firefighting efforts. Heineman said the state "will not forget" fire recovery issues in northwest Nebraska or anywhere else in Nebraska.

Heineman says the state is also working through the assessment process to see what qualifies for assistance. Heineman says another meeting with the commissioners will probably take place at the end of this year or early next year to discuss the issues again.
