Former Scottsbluff man dies in farm accident
Authorities say a former Scottsbluff area man has died after being run over by a combine in a southeast Nebraska cornfield.
The accident occurred Tuesday morning in a field about five miles south-southwest of Geneva.
The Fillmore County Sheriff's Department identified the man as 58-year-old James Gabel, of Grand Island. The department says Gabel worked for Allied Genetics in Grand Island and was measuring a test plot when the combine backed over him.
Jim and his family resided and farmed north of Scottsbluff for many years before moving to Grand Island.
The department says Gabel died after being taken to Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva.
