Erika Elfriede Prautzsch was born November 9, 1925 in Delitzsch, Germany to Bernard and Lina (Spott) Noack, and so was her twin sister, Hannelore.
As a teenager, she learned her father's trade in his meat merchandizing business, and was one of the workers in the home owned meat market through WWII.
Erika was married on May 15, 1950 to Werner H. Prautzsch. He had been a POW in the Mitchell area during the war, and the couple returned to America on their honeymoon, on the ship, "Queen Mary". They lived for a year with the Herman Gompert family, east of Mitchell, who were their sponsors, and helped them learn English and American farming techniques. After that year, they got another sponsor, Henry Hoff, for Erika's sister and brother-in-law, Anneliese and Heinz Prautzsch and their children.
They moved to the Sunflower and Dutch Flats communities working for various farmers until they bought their own place seven miles north of Mitchell.
Erika was always at her husband's side to help wherever she could. She raised gardens, sold eggs, and entertained the crop seed buyers who came to the house. Erika took great pride in her home and cooking skills.
During the early years in America, Erika was a member of St. Paul's Church and later The Federated Church. She was a member of an extension homemaker club, and helped individuals when she was called on with food and child care support.
Erika and Werner retired to a home in north Mitchell and she became a constant caregiver to her husband through his decline due to Parkinson's disease.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Erika Noack of Delitzsch, Germany; nieces and nephews, Detlev (Connie) Prautzsch of Hill City, SD, Frank (Linda) Prautzsch of Falls Church, VA, Dagmar (Dennis) Korbelik of Kanorado, KS, Petra Schadlich and Iris Thies of Delitzsch, Germany, Christine Brockhoff and Annette Schrader of Bad Harzburg, Germany, Wolf-Albrecht (Carola) Prautzsch of Munster, Germany, Ekkehard (Isolde) Prautzsch of Elwangen, Germany, and Karin Boukroum of Meckenheim, Germany.
