Kimball visitors center pushed to Scotts Bluff County

Kimball County Tourism Director Jo Caskey is hoping a visit to the Scotts Bluff County Commissioners Monday evening will get her moral and financial support for a new I-80 visitors center south of Kimball.

Caskey is hoping to gain lease agreements Tuesday from the Kimball County Commissioners for the former Burger King property at the Highway 71 junction off Interstate 80, which would be the location for the visitors center.

Caskey said without a visitor center just a few miles inside the state's western border, tourism numbers for the panhandle have been flat. She says everyone seem to know the importance of her project in turning those numbers around and getting people off the interstate.

County Tourism Director Brenda Leisy says the tourism advisory committee is supportive but still looking for a way to provide financial assistance. Caskey said with some basic renovations, she hopes to have the center open by July first.
