Lenore was born June 30, 1917 in Chanute, KS to Amador and Micaela (Mendez) Marquez. The family traveled to the Lyman area to work in the farms and later settled in Lyman and lived there for many years. Lenore served the Lord at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lyman by taking care of the altar and setting out the priest's vestments for services, teaching CCD, was a member of the choir, held officer roles in the Legion of Mary, and helped organized cursillos and retreats.
Lenore served as more than a housekeeper and secretary for two priests later for over 40 years in Lyman, Scottsbluff, Bayard and Bridgeport. She was very artistic and creative in decorating the church, designing and making beautiful vestments for priests, altar, baptismal, confirmation and communion linens. Lenore served on the committee for the Fiesta del Valle September 16th Celebration from its beginning for many years. She organized the many volunteers, dancers, made costumes, helped decorate the hall and held fund raisers. She played a major role in making sure everything ran smoothly in anything involved with the Church. She was also involved with the migrant program.
Lenore was a kind, loving, generous and humble person and touched the lives of not only her family, but friends and many others. She was godmother to many, many children. She will be missed by many people.
Although Lenore was never married, she was considered as a mother and grandmother by family members. She is survived by her sister, Domitila (Tillie) Cabral and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lenore was preceded in death by her parents, Amador and Micaela, brothers Ignacio, Teodoro, Francisco and Trinidad, and numerous other family members.
