Kuckkahn: Public Safety Director model being considered
Scottsbluff City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says he is reviewing several options regarding the hiring of a permanent Police Chief, including the possibility of establishing a new Public Safety Director that would oversee all police, fire and emergency management areas.
Kuckkahn says the resignation of Police Chief Alex Moreno has allowed the city to look at possible changes in the public safety arena.
Kuckkahn says if he decides on a Public Safety Director model, the idea is to be more efficient, streamline and have " a single conduit for public safety coming into the city of Scottsbluff."
Captain Kevin Spencer has been the Interim Police Chief for three months now after the resignation of Police Chief Alex Moreno, and Kuckkahn says he's comfortable that Spencer can continue in the position for a little longer. But Kuckkahn says he will likely make a recommendation to the council in the next month or shortly after the first of the year.
Spencer told KNEB news he expects to be the Acting Chief for another two to three months, adding Kuckkahn has been "very supportive"" and has been cooperative in filing vacant positions.
