Joint school board meeting gets good reviews
A joint meeting of the Gering and Scottsbluff school boards Monday night is getting rave reviews from the chairs of both boards and there is a desire to meet more than just once a year.
Gering Board Chair Alan Doll says it was a meeting where a lot of cooperative ideas were discussed. Doll notes the school districts are doing many of the same things to upgrade security, there was talk of sharing staff and discussions about what each district is doing to address implementation of the new health care law.
Scottsbluff Board Chair Bob Kinsey says sharing of facilities was discussed, including the possibility of Gering foregoing repairs to their own track and using the one at Bearcat Stadium.
Both men said they would like to meet quarterly if possible, and a minimum of twice a year to discuss how they can share and be more efficient. The two districts began sharing a private transportation service this year, and while there have been some "growing pains" according to Doll, both men said the contract with First Student has been a very good decision.
