Leonard Eugene Lawson, 85, Torrington
Leonard Eugene Lawson, 85, of Torrington, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm with family present on Thursday at Jones Mortuary. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Leonard's honor be made in care of Prairie Haven Hospice. Online condolences may be left and memorial candles may be lit in Leonard's memory at www.jones-mortuary.com. Jones Mortuary in Mitchell is in charge of arrangements.
Leonard was born June 23, 1927 in Hindsville, AR to Virgil P. and Leona (Evans) Lawson. He moved to Nebraska at an early age and received his early education at many one room school houses in the Valley and attended Lyman High School. He was in the U.S. Army. He married Joyce Fitzgerald in December 1947. To this union 3 children were born; Cindy, Rick and Jim. After Joyce's passing in 1950, he married Mary Ann Sherlock in 1951. To this union one daughter was born; Pam. They lived and worked on the farm south of Lyman for almost 60 years until Mary Ann's passing in 2011.
Leonard farmed for over 50 years and enjoyed raising cattle. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. His biggest joy in later years was the October hunting with his son and grandson.
He is survived by his children Cindy Feagler of Torrington, WY, Rick (Sharon) Lawson of Dexter, MO, Jim Lawson of Gering and special friend Tammy Leeling of Scottsbluff, and Pam (Walter) Walsh of Torrington, WY; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and sister Marjorie Moine of Dixon, IL.
His parents, first wife Joyce, second wife Mary Ann, infant son and older brother Carroll preceded him in death.
