Box Butte County Memorial Day services

No less than three Memorial Day ceremonies will take place this Monday in Box Butte County.

The Nebraska State Veteran's Cemetery near Alliance will host a ceremony at two o'clock Monday afternoon.

State Veteran's Cemetery Administrator Allen Pannell says this year's ceremony will include honoring parents of children who are currently deployed.

Pannell says that even though the cemetery is less than two years old, there are already over 80 interments.

The Hemingford American Legion will host a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Box Butte County Veteran's Service Officer Pete Mortaro. Following the service at the Legion, activities will move to the Hemingford Cemetery for a 21-gun salute, the laying of a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Solider and the playing of taps. If the weather cooperates, members of the Hemingford American Legion will post over 200 large United States Flags along Box Butte and Niobrara Avenues early Monday morning.

A service will also be held at the Box Butte County Courthouse Monument at 11 a.m., which will include several organizations. The guest speaker will be Alliance Mayor Fred Feldges.
