Injured man in car-truck collision improving

The condition of a Scottsbluff man injured in a car-truck collision Tuesday has been upgraded. The driver of the car 35 year old Trinidad Gonzalez, Jr., of Scottsbluff is now listed in fair condition at Regional West Medical Center.

Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Deputy Dave Ojeda says the passenger in the car 35 year old Travis Maley, also of Scottsbluff, was released from the hospital after being treated for a broken leg in the accident. The accident happened at the entrance to the INland truck parts Construction Site on Highland Road.

Ojeda says witnesses indicated the Gonzalez vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on Highland Road when it struck the truck behind the right front tire as it had already turned into the driveway of the construction site. The front end of the car slid underneath a portion of the truck after the collision.

Deputies say alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. The driver of the truck escaped injury.

The accident happened at 3:30 p.m.
