Alliance council approves rezoning for new Dollar General store
The Alliance City Council Thursday morning approved approved a request to rezone about three acres of property east of the Dairty Queen and Pizza Hut Restaurants from Residential to Highway Commercial.
The parent company of the Dollar General Store is planning to build a new store that would serve residents on the east side of Alliance. The preliminary plat for the project was also approved.
City Manager J.D. Cox says he expects the council to finalize the re-zoning in September and for Dollar General to begin construction later this fall.
The council also approved on first reading the city's fiscal year 2013 budget.
The property tax request will be 38 cents per $100 of valuation, which is the same as this budget year.
However, city finance director Randy Wagggner expects property valuations to increase by three and one-quarter percent.
The city has earmarked five million dollars in upgrades to the municipal airport.
City Manager J.D. Cox says that the city is waiting to see if they are granted a $4.5 million grant from the federal aviation administration to re-pave the main runways.
