Reuben Baum, 88, Scottsbluff
Reuben Baum, 88, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Ralph Morris officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church.
Reuben was born July 25, 1924 in Mitchell to Philip and Anna Margaret (Peltz) Baum. He attended school at Mitchell and graduated from Liberty Rural High School. Reuben was united in marriage to Lucille (Heimbouch) Baum on November 16, 1952. She died in January 1969. He later married Helen (Strauch) Baum on July 11, 1970 at St. James Lutheran Church.
Reuben farmed at the Dutch Flats, Gering Valley and then at Bayard. After farming, Reuben worked at Simplot for 15 years, retiring in 1987 at Bayard. He and Helen then moved to Gering in 1989. They resided there until recently moving to The Village at Regional West in Scottsbluff.
Reuben loved Polka music. He taught himself how to play the accordion and the dulcimer. Reuben was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Scottsbluff; sons, Gregg (Lynn) Baum of Scottsbluff and Randy (Tonya) Baum of Scottsbluff; daughter, Cindy (Richard) Groskopf of Gering; step-son, Jerry (Cindy) Strauch of Gering; step-daughters, Shari (Dean) Kamerzel of Gering and Judy (Steve) Lewis of Santan, AZ; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Lucille; brothers, Ted, Philip and John; sisters, Katherine and Millie; step son-in-law, Ronald Dolberg; and step-grandchildren, Ronnie and Brenda Dolberg.
