Box Butte Co. consolidation task force formed
Efficiencies in local law enforcement headlined a joint meeting between the Alliance City Council and the Box Butte County Commissioners earlier this week. The two parties agreed to meet jointly on a quarterly basis with the mission of improving local government.
Alliance City Manager J.D. Cox says discussion of the possibility of consolidating the police and sheriff's dispatch departments has resulted in the forming of a task force. Cox says one of the things was the law enforcement center, and there was a conversation about consolidating the dispatch services between Alliance and Box Butte County.
The task force will be co-chaired by Box Butte County Commissioner Doug Hashman and Alliance City Councilman Trent Benzel. Cox says there will be a whole lot of other people on the task force, including the police chief, the Sheriff, dispatchers, the fire chief and several others. He says they will study the issue and gather whatever information they need or require. Then the group will get back together in the next quarter, probably in February.
Cox says the consolidation discussion originated over the fact that a call to the city police department cannot be transferred to the Box Butte County Sheriff's office.
