Donald L. Baker, 70, Scottsbluff
Funeral services for Donald L. Baker, age 70, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska who passed away January 28, 2013 at home following a lengthy battle with cancer, will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 3:30 at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Upon Don's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice.
Don was born April 8, 1942 at Omaha, Nebraska, to Clarence and Mary (Pope) Baker. He received all of his education in Omaha, Nebraska. He joined the Army in 1964 and was stationed in Washington and Thailand for two years.
He married Elizabeth (Beth) Herstein on May 6, 1967 at Omaha, Nebraska and over the years resided in Omaha and Fremont ultimately moving to Scottsbluff in 1978, continuing to live there until his death.
Don was a gifted design engineer who worked for several companies to include Lockwood Corporation in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, For several years, and up until his illness, Don worked with John Hennings providing sub-contractor services.
Don enjoyed fishing, home improvement projects and spending time with his family and friends. He had a very special relationship with his only granddaughter Paige and loved hearing about all of her accomplishments. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Beth, son Jeff; daughter Susan (Randal) Schwartz; granddaughter Paige Schwartz; sister, Patricia (Warren) Monson; sister-in-law, Betty Baker; four nieces and two nephews.
Preceding Don in death were his parents; brother, Gene; infant nephew, Marty and numerous aunts and uncles.
