Gering to be aggressive in establishing downtown plan
Gering Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Karla Niedan-Streeks says the Gering downtown revitalization committee will not waste any time in selecting a planner and applying for implementation money now that the city has been approved by the state for a $30,000 planning grant.
Niedan-Streeks says they will be aggressive in moving forward, hoping to get a planner selected soon and a plan finalized within the next three to six months so the committee can apply for an implementation grant to accomplish their goals. .
Niedan-Streeks says the committee wants to make the downtown more pedestrian friendly, attract more retail, service and restaurant business, and learn to entice the 180,000 tourists that visit the Monument and the city's other attractions to spend time downtown and shop.
