WNCC to use eminent domain to acquire land

The Western Nebraska Community College Board of Governors last week authorized the college administration to use eminent domain to acquire two acres of land from Tim Reganis adjacent to east 27th Street and south of Conestoga Hall.

Bill Knapper, Dean of Administrative Services, says the college has been unsuccessful in acquiring the property from Reganis, which is adjacent to land Reganis and Dave Schaff plan to develop for a hotel and auto dealership.

Knapper says acquiring the property is part of WNCC's master plan. Knapper says the land will define the college's boundaries, provide additional parking with the expansion at Pioneer Hall and overflow parking for events at the Harms Center. Knapper says it would also give the college added greenscape.

KNEB has made efforts to contact Reganis without success.
