Fischer: Spending cuts should be focus of sequestration deal, State of the Union

Nebraska's junior U.S. Senator Deb Fischer says she would like to see President Obama propose a strategic plan for budget cuts rather than push for more tax increases. Obama has indicated he will suggest targeted budget cuts but will also push for more tax revenue including the closing of certain tax loopholes and reductions.

Fischer says there is need for tax reform but as the country approaches the debt ceiling deadline, spending cuts should be the focus.

Fischer says the number one thing her constituency requested during her campaign to gain the Senate seat was reductions in spending. Fischer says she will try to answer the requests of those that elected her while admitting it will be difficult to do in the partisan atmosphere in Washington.
