Gary was born on September 10, 1961 in South Pass, Wyoming. Gary went on to welding trade school at Casper and then worked as a welder on pipelines for a time before going to work for WyDOT, (Wyoming Department of Transportation) at Riverton, Wyoming and then to Torrington in 1988 where he served as Survey Crew Chief.
Gary married Shannon Garrison on August 28, 1983 at Hubbard's Cupboard at Laramie Peak.
Gary really enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors and he was involved from the beginning of the Cowboy State Antique Steam & Gas Association. He loved his favorite dog, Darla, and she went everywhere with him. Gary built a cabin at Laramie Peak in the Ester Brook area and he liked to hunt. He loved his family and spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife, Shannon Peterson of Torrington; his son LeRoy James Peterson and his daughter Breeanna Rose Peterson both of Torrington; and his mother Betty Peterson of Casper, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Minnie McCormick and his "adoptive" father, Clarence Ramschiner.
