Gering woman charged with stealing narcotics from Scottsbluff pharmacy

A Gering woman has been arrested on two felony charges after being accused of stealing narcotics from the pharmacy she worked for.

According to court documents, 26-year-old Jami Nelson was observed on surveillance cameras taking Hydrocodone and Ibuprofen from Walgreens on July 25th. Walgreen's officials waited until Nelson returned from maternity leave on October 1st before confronting her with the theft.

Scottsbluff police contacted Nelson and she admitted to taking drugs from Walgreens for over 14 months, and admitted she had taken the pills on July 25th. Nelson told investigators she would take ten pills at time, and concealed them in her pockets or a bag.

Nelson has been charged with theft by taking, a class III felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a class IV felony. Nelson was released on a $2,500 cash bond, and will have her first appearance in Scotts Bluff County court on October 19th. She faces up to 25 years in prison, and a $35,000 fine if convicted.
