Golf courses recovering from hailstorm
Golfers at the two municipal golf courses in Scottsbluff and Gering will find the courses are recovering from Tuesday night's hailstorm when they go out to play this week.
The Riverview golf course on the west edge of Scottsbluff was closed Wednesday until 4 p.m. due to the course damage, which included damage to greens and stripped trees. Freuh said leaves covered fairways and it took a lot of work to sweep them up.
Owner Grace Frueh said the back nine was opened Wednesday afternoon and the front nine was opened Thursday morning. Freuh says they have sanded their greens and "verti-cut" them to try to improve the situation.
At Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering, Parks Director Ron Ernst says the greens at Monument Shadows Golf course are "pretty beat up". Ernst says the holes are "obvious", and big but not that deep.
Ernst says they have top dressed the greens with some fertilizer to give them a boost and rolled them several times to try to bring the greens back.
The Scotts Bluff Country Club on the north edge of Scottsbluff managed to escape with only minor damage to a couple greens and a few stripped trees.
