Renovation planned for Kimball landmark
A Kimball landmark will hopefully be renovated within the next couple of years as the Kimball City Council moves forward on plans to upgrade the underpass on the former Highway 71 route on the north side of Kimball.
City Administrator Daniel Ortiz says some residents have expressed interest in restoring the existing rock as it lays. Ortiz says unfortunately that would be a very labor intensive process that would drive up the cost. However, he says they do hope to incorporate some of the existing rock in some form in the project.
Ortiz says they have until 2015 to get through the environmental process, public hearings and award a contract by that time. He says they are under a tight time crunch, but believes they will be able to do it and get the process moving before the miss out on the window to receive federal funding.
