Torrington couple charged in Guernsey State Park fire

A Torrington couple whose open campfire got out of control, causing the Guernsey State Park fire earlier this month, have been formally charged with third degree arson. Ann Schultz and Thomas Dean Pierson, both 36, are accused in the fire that consumed close to 2,800 acres.

The fire started on the east side of Guernsey Reservoir. There was a fire ban when the couple set their campfire.

The Wheatland Record-Times also says Schultz and Pierson are charged in Platte County Court in Wheatland with negligently burning woods, prairies or grounds, a misdemeanor. They are being held in the Platte County Detention Center in Wheatland on a $50,000 bond pending their next court date
