Expansion project underway at Bridgeport Public Library
An expansion project is underway in Bridgeport that will basically double the size of the Public Library there. Fundraising efforts have been underway for some time to allow for the project to become a reality. Librarian Tammy Covalt says the newly acquired space will allow them to expand out with a special emphasis on children. She says the expanded space was a vacant building that used to be City Hall.
A common wall between the library and a vacant building that used to be City Hall is being removed, and the newly acquired space is being used to create an expanded childrens area. The existing space will allow for more expansion of technology with room for more of the 14 computers received through a grant.
Paul Reed Construction began work on the project July 8th, with a 90 day construction period anticipated. Covalt says they thought it was important to keep the library open during the construction, and thanks patrons for their patience with the mess and the noise.
