William R. "Bill" Tallmon, 75, Scottsbluff

William R. "Bill" Tallmon, 75, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, October 1, 2012 at his home. At his request there will be no public visitation or memorial service. A private ceremony with immediate family only will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to WNCC Scholarship Fund.

Bill was born November 19, 1936 in Prescott, IA to George and Ruby (Beatty) Tallmon. In 1948 the family moved to Mitchell where he received his education at the Mitchell schools, graduating in 1954, then to Elgin Watchmakers College in Elgin, IL, graduating in 1956. He worked for two years in California for the Micronics division of the Elgin Company then returned to the valley and joined his father in the Mitchell jewelry business as a watch repairman. Bill opened another Tallmon jewelry store in Scottsbluff in 1962, where he continued as a jeweler until 2011. During that time Bill became a leading Nebraska jeweler and gemologist.

Bill earned certifications from the Gemological Institute of America and a long list of professional credentials, including former director of the Nebraska/South Dakota Jeweler's Association, former president of the Scottsbluff/Gering Chamber of Commerce, and frequent speaker/seminar leader at trade shows and conventions around the nation. In recognition of his expertise as a jeweler and his commitment to the public, he was awarded Retail Merchant of the Year for the state of Nebraska, and also ranked second nationally in the Morris Zale Award for excellence in marketing.

In his late 50's he became interested in the natural health field and earned two doctorate degrees in Natural health science. He traveled to both China and India to expand his knowledge of natural health care and natural medicine. He also worked with clients while creating an internet website to pass along health care information.

Bill enjoyed memberships in, the Sugar Valley Singers where he was a charter member, and Elks Lodge #1367. He took special pride in his family and enjoyed all their special events.

Bill is survived by his wife Susie, sons Michael (Dawn) Tallmon and Jay (Nora) Tallmon, daughter Jolene (Larry) Savin, six grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, brother Ralph Tallmon and sister Judy.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Jean and brother Jerry.
