Thomas "Tom" H. Bivens, 38, Scottsbluff
Thomas "Tom" H. Bivens, 38, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, May 30, 2013 at his home in Scottsbluff. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Cornerstone Church in Bayard with Pastor Paul Maunu officiating. Interment will follow at Angora Cemetery. The Nebraska Army National Guard will provide military honors. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to the Alyssa Bivens college fund or to a charity of the donor's choice in Tom's name.
Tom was born August 14, 1974 in Scottsbluff to Harry and Nolene (Blackstone) Bivens. He joined the US Army after graduating from Alliance High School. Tom served as a Ship Navigator. Following his time in the military, he worked at several jobs before finding a career he loved as a long haul truck driver for Swift Trucking. Tom was forced to stop working after he was injured with carbon monoxide and coolant poisoning.
The pride and joy of Tom's life was his daughter, Alyssa who he doted on and supported throughout her school years. He loved to listen to her play the guitar and sing.
Tom was a Life Boy Scout Member and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
Survivors include his daughter, Alyssa, of Bayard; sons, T.J. and Nate, of Moses Lake, WA; father, Harry (Candy) Bivens of Mitchell; mother, Nolene (Steve) Lattin of Bayard; brother, Chris Bivens of Gering; sister, Suzanne Bivens of Bayard; step-brothers, Darren (Christine) Lattin of Livingston, MT, Brett Lattin of Buffalo, WY and William (Keri) Lattin of Jacksonville, NC; step-sister, Becca Lattin of Scottsbluff; maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Blackstone of Bayard; uncles, Jim Blackstone of OK, Raymond Cross of Bayard and Barney Coulp of Alliance; aunts, Nancy Blackstone of Bayard, Janice (Chuck) Williams of VA and Shelli Rabenberg of OK; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Tom in death were his paternal grandparents, Wilbur and Maggie Bivens; maternal grandfather, Nolan Blackstone; and aunts, Janett Cross, Florence Coulp and Rosalee Sell.
