"Legacy of the Plains" selected as museum name
After months of thought, research and discussion, board members of the Farm And Ranch Museum and the North Platte Valley Museum have chosen Legacy of the Plains" as the name for the new organization that will be formed when the two museums combine.
Kathleen Cox of Gering will be awarded a lifetime Legacy of the Plains membership for suggesting that name, which was one of more than 100 submissions received in response to a public call for name ideas.
The museums' board members selected "Legacy of the Plains" because it is a marketable name that encompasses and defines the missions of both museums.
The word "legacy" describes the essence of what both FARM and NPVM do. The word "plains" anchors the name to the region where the museums' history unfolded. "Legacy of the Plains" also meets criteria for a good brand name. It is distinctive, short, appropriate, easy to spell and pronounce, likable, protectable (no one else is using it) and could be used in different ways including fund raising.
The plan is to continue to use both the Farm And Ranch Museum and North Platte Valley Museum names in certain marketing contexts so that people will still be able to identify the reputation each museum has built and so people using older marketing materials will still be able to find the museums.
