Panhandle native hoping to make next career move
Travis Miller is hoping his next career move will be only 20 miles away. Miller, the current Bayard schools superintendent, is the second of the four candidates to complete interviews for the Gering superintendent position.
Miller told KNEB News being a panhandle resident all his life is an advantage for him in raising a family that includes five children, and would be a plus as the next Gering superintendent if he is the one chosen. Miller says he knows the values that are important to western Nebraskans and he could smoothly transition into the new position.
Miller says curriculum choices should be data driven, and if changes are needed, the district should not hesitate to visit similar districts whose test scores show they are doing things in a specific area better than Gering.
Miller says one of the important things for a superintendent to do is hire quality people and then be receptive to new ideas that might be suggested.
