Gering couple has first baby of 2013 at Regional West

Regional West Medical Center's New Year's baby is a boy born to Gering couple.

Raymond Anthony Mata was the first baby born at Regional West's Birth and Infant Care Center in 2013. Parents Kelli Vanderveen and Raymond Mata of Gering welcomed little Raymond into the world at 2:44 a.m. on New Year's Day.

He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 51.5 centimeters long. Mother and child are doing fine.

Baby Raymond received a bag full of gifts from the Medical Center in recognition of his distinction as Regional West's "First Baby of the New Year."
