Grant to help Lincoln Heights turf project
The Oregon Trail Community Foundation and Scottsbluff Public Schools announced today that Lincoln Heights Elementary has been awarded a $5,000 grant to go toward the purchase of artificial turf for the playground and PE classes. The grant is made possible through the Seacrest Fund.
The Lincoln Heights Parent-Teachers Organization is spearheading the privately-funded effort to replace a portion of the playground with artificial turf that has been reseeded for the last several years and has not sustained grass growth. The area is unusable for much of the year due to muddy conditions and risk of injury.
The grant will assist the PTO in raising $40,000 to match the $21,000 in the building budget and $20,000 in the district's depreciation fund that will go towards the project.
The check presentation will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln Heights Elementary.
