Howard S. Berger, 92, Scottsbluff

Howard S. Berger, 92, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, August 5, 2013 in Greeley, CO. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. A private family interment will be held prior to the service at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013. A memorial has been established to First Presbyterian Church.

Howard was born June 16, 1921 in Geneva, NE to Schuyler and Amelia (Gabriel) Berger, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1938. He attended the University of Nebraska and played in the UN marching band. He married Shirley Green in Minden, NE June 14, 1942. He served in the Army Air Corp during WW II.

Howard worked in banking all of his career. He came to Scottsbluff in 1946 to work at First State Bank and retired from there in 1983 starting as a cashier and ending as an executive vice president.

Howard was a life member and past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #1367 and First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff.

He is survived his son Chuck (Dawn) Berger of Helena, MT, granddaughter Stephanie Berger of Missoula, MT and daughter Patty (Steve) Lavely of Greeley, CO.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Glen, Robert, Don and sister Mildred and wife Shirley.
