Gering Police warn of magazine subscription scam
Police are warning residents to be on the alert for a magazine subscription scam by a man and woman who are canvassing neighborhoods in Gering. Gering Police Captain Jason Rogers says the couple is traveling in a white van with Colorado license plates and do not have a local permit to sell items door to door.
Residents who feel they have been scammed say the man asks them to buy magazine subscriptions for military members overseas and claim a portion of the money is also funding a trip for Gering High School students to Italy. The checks were written to HP Consulting, which is identified on the internet as a magazine scam involving Colorado residents.
Rogers says if you are contacted by the couple, you should immediately call Police so they can approach the pair about whether they are legitimate and take the appropriate action.
