Nelson: Obama task force should be about more than gun control
Senator Ben Nelson says he welcomes President Obama's efforts to respond to the mass shooting in Connecticut but wants to make sure his proposed task force looks at issues beyond gun control.
President Barack Obama is asking a team led by Vice President Joe Biden to offer ``concrete proposals'' to curb gun violence no later than January. Nelson says social issues like mental health availability and other social issues need to be part of the discussion.
Obama is calling on Congress to reinstate an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004, and to close the gun show ``loophole'' allowing people to buy firearms from private dealers without a background check. And he says he wants Congress to look into limiting high-capacity ammunition clips.
