Schlaepfer promotes Chili Cook Off, carnival move
Oregon Trail Days General Chairman Bill Schlaepfer is asking residents to have an open mind and try out the new location for the annual Chili Cook off and carnival. To make more room for both and to preserve the Oregon Trail Park Legion baseball field, the Cook-Off and the carnival have been moved to the area around the Five Rocks Amphitheater.
Schlaepfer says the extra room for the Cook-Off allows many other things to take place with the event, including a children's area, food vendors, a beer garden, and entertainment from the Drivin' Dynamics and the Galaxy of Stars.
Schlaepfer says the city has made the move to Five Rocks easier by installing a crossing and lighted pathways to the Amphitheater. Ameristar has also established a shuttle back and forth from the Amphitheater to the Civic Center Saturday afternoon from 2-6:30 p.m.
Schlaepfer says moving the carnival to the Five Rocks Amphitheater will allow it to offer more rides. Schlaepfer said they had to leave out three of their rides when they were located at Oregon Trail Park. Schlaepfer said that won't be the case with more room at the Amphitheater.
Schlaepfer says bracelet nights are scheduled for Thursday night, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday evening.
Schlaepfer says mud volleyball will also be held at the Amphitheater starting around 1 p.m Saturday. If you want to get a team entered, call Rebecca Shields at 641-4018.
