Sidney child care provider to appeal sentence
A Sidney woman convicted of negligent child abuse regarding injuries to a 2 month old at her in-home day care is appealing her sentence according to the Cheyenne County Attorney's office.
56 year old Nancy Gipfert was sentenced Wednesday to to 24 months probation and 94 days in the county jail by District Judge Derek Weimer. She was also fined $1,000 and ordered to complete 500 hours of community service.
Gipfert is out on bond until a decision is made on the appeal.
The case stemmed from an incident in September 2011 when the child was taken to the Sidney hospital by family members and was then then transported to a hospital in Denver.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services issued an emergency order two weeks later suspending Gipfert's child care license after Police indicated the child had been injured as a result of abusive head trauma and doctors said the injuries occurred while the child was in Gipfert's care.
